Atessa is the most extensive town in terms of land in the province of Chieti and it varies in altitude between 55 metres a.s.l. at the bottom of the valley, to 876 metres on top of the hills lying behind. With 10,600 inhabitants Atessa is a town full of interests: the old town with ancient monuments, the Vallaspra Convent and the lively industrial area in the Sangro district. Atessa can be reached via the exit "Val di Sangro" off the A14 motorway and by following the main road n. Statale 652 also named Fondovalle Sangro.
