Francavilla al mare
Next door to Pescara and part of its metropolitan area, Francavilla is a very sunny seaside town. It covers over 10 kilometres of the Adriatic coast with a number of tree lined avenues, villas and residential areas. A tourist town with over 24,000 residents and characterized by a cultural tradition that goes back to the eighteenhundreds when Francesco Paolo Michetti used his convent as a workshop for local artists including Gabriele D'Annunzio. One of the most famous events here is the annual international "Michetti" Art Competition. Francavilla has its own train station on the Adriatic line and it has an exit off the coastal motorway (Pescara Sud-Francavilla), the A14 Bologna-Bari.
